Alexandria

Office: Surveys and Right of Way - District 4

Location: Alexandria, MN
Work Type: Field
Number of Positions: 1
Support District 4 Surveys and Right of Way sections including scanning, documentation, pre-acquisition/acquisition activities, base maps, office processing, field staking, topo surveys, and data collection.

Primary Tasks:

  • Provide support to the Right of Way and Survey sections
  • Assist in the preparation right of way packages
  • Perform computations necessary for survey office operations
  • Assist field survey crew

Detroit Lakes

Office: Design - District 4

Location: 1000 Highway 10 West, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501

Provide support and other duties as assigned. 

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist with the preparation of plans up to 30% completed
  • Assist with the preparation of final design plans according to MnDOT design standards
  • Gather necessary information needed for recommended solutions on hydraulics, erosion control, and drainage issues for design/construction projects
  • Assist with permits to advance projects and address all environmental concerns

Duluth

Office: Major Projects - District 1

Assist the Twin Ports Interchange Project Team by performing and implementing inspection processes to ensure contractor compliance.

Primary Tasks:

  • Interpret plans and specifications, and monitor contractor and traffic control safety practices
  • Measure, compute, document, and enter pay items into Field Ops or AASHTOware to determine amount to pay contractor
  • Perform routine field testing of construction materials (grading and base, bituminous, concrete), deliver samples to district lab, or perform appropriate tests, analyze results, verify material quality to determine if construction materials meet MnDOT specifications
  • Make recommendations to Chief Inspector and Project Engineer to accept or reject materials based on test results
  • Work hours are 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, overtime should be expected beyond the base work hours including frequent work on Saturdays

Serve as survey crew member to assist with construction, location, and design surveys.

Primary Tasks:

  • Work includes pounding stakes with frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Work could include survey equipment set up and operation
  • Plan reading skills are beneficial
  • Overtime may be required

St. Cloud

Office: Materials Lab - District 3

Location: 3725 12th Street North, St. Cloud, MN 56303

Perform and assist with laboratory testing or field construction inspection of construction materials.

Primary Tasks:

  • Test aggregate, bituminous, and concrete construction materials
  • Enter test results in the computer system
  • Clean and replace any supplies needed for testing materials
  • Dispose of materials that are cleared to recycle
  • Clean and grease testing equipment to prepare it for next sample

Willmar

Office: Construction (Contract Administration) - District 8

Provide inspection, testing, and documentation during the construction phase for highway construction projects.

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist in inspection of contractor’s work and methods so the construction work meets the requirements of the plans, specifications, and special provisions
  • Perform field testing of construction materials to ensure that tests are performed accurately, timely, thoroughly, and according to specification
  • Document and summarize appropriate data necessary to pay contractors promptly ensuring data integrity and compliance with government regulations

Perform preliminary design support, coordination, and documentation for pavement and bridge construction projects.

Primary Tasks:

  • Prepare environmental documentation for pavement and bridge projects to ensure conformance with application of state and federal laws
  • Assist in the development and review of preliminary and final layouts for construction projects, to ensure they meet design standards and specifications
  • Monitor and track of environmental clearances and responses for construction projects, assist in preparation of green sheets.
  • Document design standards for projects including design memos, complete streets documentation, and scoping reports
