Brief traffic stoppage set for 3 am, October 29 on Highway 52 southbound to set overhead sign

ROCHESTER, Minn. – People traveling southbound on Highway 52 just past the Marion exit at 3 a.m., October 29 will be briefly stopped for construction crews to place an overhead sign above the southbound lanes, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Southbound traffic will be stopped just past the 50th Avenue southbound on-ramp to Highway 52, north of the interchange with Interstate 90. Crews will be placing an overhead directional sign.

The stoppage is planned for 3 a.m., Thursday and expected to take approximately 15 minutes. Once completed, traffic will be directed south on Highway 52. Drivers will not be able to reach the flyover ramp to eastbound Interstate 90 until after the closure is lifted.

Additionally, there will be single-lane closures from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30, on the bridge deck and approaches of both I-90 bridges over Highway 52 for bridge deck crack sealing. Thru traffic will continue during the work.

The project began in July of 2024 and was opened fully to traffic on October 9. Final work continues with periodic lane closures for work adjacent to the road. This type of work to finalize the project will continue into December with little disruption to traffic.

During construction, crews replaced and lengthened two Interstate 90 bridges, built a new flyover bridge to take southbound Highway 52 traffic to eastbound I-90, rebuilt and realigned traffic ramps and Highway 52 through the work zone.
