I-35 in Duluth to close overnight Oct. 14

DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be doing overhead work on the pedestrian bridge over I-35 just south of Mesaba Ave on the night of Oct. 14. The work will require a full closure of I-35 and will start at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14 and last until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. Vehicle traffic on I-35 will be detoured on I-535 to Garfield Ave to Railroad St to 5th Ave W overnight. The bridge is expected to open at the end of October.

Please visit the project website for pedestrian detour maps and additional information. Travelers can plan ahead and see updated road closures and traffic conditions at 511mn.org.

Work zone safety tips:

  • Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
  • Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones.
  • Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
  • Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
  • Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
  • Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.
