Highways 23 and 71 resurfacing project in Willmar opens today

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Highway 71/23 Bypass resurfacing project is now open.  Travelers will see intermittent lane closures and increased Minnesota State Patrol enforcement over the next few weeks while crews work on guardrails and complete cleanup tasks.

MnDOT thanks the community for its patience during the comprehensive two-year project. Slowing down, avoiding distractions, and respecting signage and barriers helped maintain a safe work zone.

The project opens one month earlier than originally planned. MnDOT appreciates the flexibility and commitment demonstrated by the prime contractor and their subcontractors in completing all tasks ahead of schedule.

The project included:

  • New concrete pavement replaced worn asphalt
  • Upgraded guardrail systems and median high-tension cables
  • Multiple culverts replaced

Duininck Inc. was the prime contractor for the $21.6 million project.
