Roundabout at Highway 13 and Highway 99 south of Montgomery opens Sept. 9
MANKATO, Minn. – Construction of a single-roundabout at the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 99 south of Montgomery is nearly complete and the detour is expected to be removed Wednesday, Sept. 9 by 5 p.m. according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Traffic has been detoured since June 1 while crews built the roundabout to improve safety. The project also included lighting and updated drainage. Snow fence will also be installed later this fall, with minimal impacts to traffic.
Roundabouts cut fatal crashes by up to 90 percent, and injury crashes by roughly 75 percent.
Benefits of the project include improved traffic flow, lighting, drainage, and enhanced safety for motorists. BCM Construction, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $2,996,401.18.
