Construction of new Highway 65 pedestrian/bicycle bridge begins in Blaine
Turn lane from southbound Highway 65 to westbound 113th Ave. closes Mon., August 31
Roseville, Minn. -- As work begins on the new pedestrian/bicycle bridge crossing Highway 65 in Blaine, the turn lane from southbound Highway 65 to 113th Ave. on the west side of the highway will close on Monday, Aug. 31, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The new bridge, which will span the highway between 113th Ave. on the west and 114th Ave. on the east, is part of the larger Highway 65 Blaine Interchanges project. 113th Ave. will remain open to the west for nearby businesses and will remain open in the eastbound direction to reach southbound Highway 65. There is no access from 113th Ave. to the northbound highway.
The closure will allow construction crews to begin building the abutment and piers for the bridge. Crews will work Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Construction activities will include pile driving for the new structure’s foundation. During pile driving, nearby homes and businesses will experience some noise and vibration, but we’ll do our best to keep the impacts to a minimum and only work during daylight hours.
During the closure, motorists will need to follow the signed detour west on 117th Ave. and south on Ulysses St. or west on 109th Ave. to Ulysses St. to reach 113th Ave.
Weather permitting, the turn lane will reopen by early November.
The project will convert the existing at-grade intersections at 99th Ave., 105th Ave., 109th Ave. and 117th Ave./Cloud Dr. into interchanges, with Hwy 65 traveling above. Work also includes a pedestrian bridge across the new freeway between 113th and 114th Avenues, rerouting existing local street/driveway connections using frontage/backage roads between 97th Ave. and 125th Ave. along with reconstructing existing sidewalk along the road to meet Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards.
Anoka County also has highway construction on 109th Avenue NE at Tournament Players Parkway and at Radisson Road (County Road 52). There also is construction along 105th Ave. between Radisson Road and Highway 65.
