Roundabout project on Highway 13 and Highway 99 south of Montgomery begins June 1
MANKATO, Minn. – Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 99 south of Montgomery is expected to begin June 1, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Preliminary tree clearing and utility work is currently underway with minimal traffic impacts. The intersection will be closed starting June 1 for construction, and traffic will be detoured. (Detour map below)
The project includes constructing a single-lane roundabout to improve safety, along with lighting, snow fence, and updated drainage.
Project benefits, cost
Benefits of the project include enhanced safety for motorists, improved traffic flow, lighting, and drainage. BCM Construction, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $2,996,401.18.
Funding to construct the roundabout was awarded from the High Risk Rural Roads program to improve safety at rural highway intersections.
