MnDOT updates Highway 280 public meeting plans; virtual meeting scheduled Feb. 11
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is updating plans for upcoming public meetings related to significant improvements to Highway 280 from Interstate 94 in St. Paul to Highway 36/Interstate 35W in Roseville, scheduled to begin in April 2026.
MnDOT is postponing the in-person meeting—originally scheduled for this week— due to the presence of immigration enforcement agents in the Twin Cities metro creating safety concerns. In place of the in-person meeting, MnDOT will host a virtual public meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Safety is MnDOT's top priority. The agency is monitoring the situation and hopes to gather in person for a future opportunity.
The virtual meeting will include a formal presentation followed by time for questions and answers with the project team. Community members are encouraged to attend online to learn more about the 2026 and 2028 construction projects along Highway 280. A recording of the meeting will be posted on the project webpage a few days after the event.

Beginning in April through fall 2026, MnDOT will resurface Highway 280, repair bridges, repair and resurface ramps, improve drainage and make additional safety enhancements. These improvements will extend the life of the roadway and bridges, improve safety and provide a smoother ride for motorists.
Motorists can expect a full closure of Highway 280 from Interstate 94 to Highway 36/Interstate 35W during the 2026 construction season. A full closure allows crews to complete work more quickly and safely. Highway 280 is expected to reopen before the start of the Minnesota State Fair in late August. Following the State Fair, MnDOT will work to limit traffic impacts to lane closures through fall 2026.
In spring 2028, MnDOT will continue bridge repairs and make additional safety and accessibility improvements for people traveling along and across Highway 280.
