Transportation Information System (TIS)
The TIS is an integrated database with roadway and selected bridge, accident, traffic and pavement data. See the TIS users manual (PDF) for more information.
Data we maintain
- Trunk highway roadway history file that includes profiles of roadway cross sections
- Roadlog files with data on location, jurisdiction, functional classification, surface/shoulder type and width and reference points
- Control section records and construction project logs
How we're keeping data consistent
The TIS database is subject to ongoing revisions. This results in differences in the information presented on reports, over time. To allow for consistency, the reports on this web page are based on a "snapshot" of the data, which is taken during every mid-year. The data and statistics presented on TIS reports may vary from the information obtained from other sources. Some information, like Miles of Vehicle Travel (VMT), is based on a combination of historical and current data.
See historical traffic volumes stored in TIS. These reports cover VMTs from 2001 through the most recent full year. One report goes back to 1988.
Statewide mileage and lane miles
See recent TIS info available for generating summaries of mileage and lane mileage. Data includes historical summaries generated since 2002.
Year-to-year comparisons of mileage and miles of vehicle travel
Construction project log
See an index of all construction projects on an individual trunk highway beginning with the first known work, organized by county and control section. Information goes back to the 1920s.
Trunk highway log point
See a one-line record containing information on features that intersect the roadway, including bridges, rail grade crossings and other roadways.
See functional classification data - the grouping of streets and highways into classes or systems according to the character of service they are intended to provide.
