Downloading and using MnDOT Geodetic Control Map Package file
MnDOT Geodetic Data in ESRI ArcGIS format can be downloaded as an ESRI Map Package from our FTP site here: Geodetic Control ArcGIS Map Package format. The file is updated daily.
Map packages (.mpk) make it easy to share complete map documents with others. A map package contains a map document (.mxd) and the data referenced by the layers it contains, packaged into one convenient, portable file.
Map packages can be used for easy sharing of maps between colleagues in a work group, across departments in an organization, or with any other ArcGIS users via ArcGIS online. Map packages have other uses, too, such as the ability to create an archive of a particular map that contains a snapshot of the current state of the data used in the map.
The layers in the map package are organized the same way as in the MnDOT Geodetic Monument Viewer. Layer definitions can be found in the following help document: Geodetic Monument Viewer Guide (PDF).
Adding GIS data to ArcMap from a map package

- Double-click the file to launch ArcMap and unpack all data in the package.
From ArcCatalog
- Browse to the location of the .mpk file.
- Right-click the file and select Unpack. This action launches ArcMap and unpacks the data in the package. The process is the same if you are using ArcCatalog from within ArcMap. Note: The .mpk file cannot be opened within ArcMap.
