Keypoints (formerly known as Logpoints)
By: Loren Hill, Program Support Engineer
Prior to 2016, MnDOT had Logpoint Listings which were produced from the Transportation Information System (TIS). With the creation of the Location Referencing System (LRS), the need for the listing was diminished. In addition, the Enterprise MnDOT Mapping Application (EMMA) allows users to determine the RouteID and Measure at any point on a road.
However, there is still a need for users to find the location when given a RouteID and Measure for a crash or a Pathways or project segment. The Office of Transportation Systems Management (OTSM) has recently produced a listing now named Keypoints. Access to it can be found at https://www.dot.state.mn.us/roadway/data/data-products.html#LPF.
If you then click on Keypoints by County Report, decide whether you want a PDF or an Excel file. Then select the County desired, and click Go , the below output is produced. A sample of the Excel output for Atkin CSAH 1 is below. Note that there are additional columns of data available at each point.
The Keypoint Listings are produced from a snapshot of data taken at the end of the year. It is used for Federal reporting along with other applications like Roadway Project Mapping Application (RPMA) and SALT’s Project Tracking. RPMA has similar elements as EMMA, but data elements in EMMA are updated weekly.
State Aid will be holding two one-hour training sessions on Keypoints, EMMA, RPMA and some uses of these applications. The sessions will be the same to allow you to pick a time convenient for you. The dates and times are:
- Tuesday, April 19 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, OR
- Thursday, April 28 from 10 am to 11:00 am
There will be a formal invite for the sessions sent to all county and city engineers. If you do not receive it and want to attend, please advise and I can send it to you.
