Hwy 53 relocation project winds down
Final Coffee and Conversation is Oct. 5
VIRGINIA, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Highway 53 relocation will turn off the project web cam on Friday, Sept. 29. The project hotline, 218-820-8532 will shut down at the same time.
The relocation project opened to traffic Sept. 18 and workers are putting the final touches on the new roadway and bridges as well as removing the old Highway 53 roadway.
Project Director Pat Huston anticipates that the project will be substantially complete, and the workers and equipment gone, by the end of October. The project will have some minor work in 2018 including the placement of a chip seal on portions of the asphalt pavement, minor drainage work and final project clean-up. In addition, there will be a separate landscaping project.
Huston added that the new alignment of the Mesabi Trail will open Saturday. The community will conduct a walk to commemorate the event. More information is available at BridgeDaze.com.
The project website, at: www.mndot.gov/d1/projects/hwy53relocation will remain available for another month.
And the final Coffee and Conversation will take place on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. at MnDOT’s Virginia headquarters, 101 N. Hoover Rd., Virginia, Minn.
