Stillwater Lift Bridge repairs complete, bridge reopens for morning rush hour

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Crews from the Minnesota Department of Transportation completed electrical repairs shortly after 4:30 a.m. this morning and the bridge has been reopened to traffic. Workers labored overnight to install a new main power cable on the bridge to replace a cable that burned out on Tuesday and stalled the bridge mid-lift. The normal lift schedule also will resume at 8 a.m. this morning.

A malfunction in an electrical meter socket that monitors power usage at the Stillwater lift bridge failed at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday and caused the bridge to stop about 30 feet above the water, 3/4 of the way up. The bridge again stalled just before 8:30 p.m. about halfway up during testing after the electric meter socket was repaired. Workers had to be lowered from the lift span by bucket truck.
