MnDOT ribbon-cutting for U.S. Bicycle Route 41 is Saturday

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A ribbon-cutting for the state’s newest nationally designated bicycle route, U.S. Bike Route 41, will be Saturday, May 20 at 9 a.m. at Lower Landing Park/Lambert’s Landing at the intersection of Shepard Road and Sibley Street  in St. Paul. The ribbon-cutting will also kick off a six-day bicycle tour on the route, which goes from St. Paul to Grand Portage State Park on the Minnesota/Canadian border.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include comments from Minnesota Department of Transportation Chief of Staff Eric Davis, Ramsey County Commissioner Victoria Reinhardt, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Adventure Cycling Association’s Ginny Sullivan.

Also invited to speak are Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr and Canada’s Consul General Khawar Nasim.

Other guests include representatives from bicycle groups, the National Park Service and the city of St. Paul.

USBR 41, also known as the North Star Route, travels 315 miles on mostly state, regional and local trails. After passing through Duluth, the route is connected to nine state parks, two national parks and the Superior National Forest. Route information and maps are located at www.mndot.gov/bike/usbr41/

“The North Star Route provides a truly remarkable bike connection through 315 miles of Minnesota's natural beauty and rich, diverse communities,” said Lt. Governor Tina Smith. “This trail is a testament to our commitment to expand opportunities for biking, and I predict it will become a must do activity, whether you ride the complete length of the trail or enjoy one segment at a time. I hope to see you on the trail.”

Registration for the bicycle tour is closed, but bicyclists are invited to escort the 45 trip participants out of St. Paul via the Bruce Vento Trail.

The state’s other nationally designated bicycle route is USBR 45, also known as the Mississippi River Trail in St. Paul.
