Update: Hwy 59 closed south of Lancaster due to train derailment

Motorists will detour until approximately June 14

BEMIDJI, Minn. –(2:30 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed Hwy 59 south of Lancaster due to a train derailment on May 31. Motorists will detour utilizing Hwy 175 and Kittson County road 5. The Hwy will remain closed to allow local responders, rail inspectors and cleanup crews to continue their work, which could take up to two weeks.

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail.
