MnDOT provides update on Highway 23 safety improvement project timeline
WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is in the process of analyzing and looking at potential funding sources for a safety improvement at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 9 in New London.
Following an extensive community input process which concluded in December 2022, both the interchange and roundabout concepts are being considered.
Kandiyohi County submitted a Corridors of Commerce application to receive funding for an interchange at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 9. Awards were originally going to be announced on May 1, 2023, but in an effort to incorporate any legislative updates to the program, the announcement has been rescheduled to after the end of the 2023 legislative session. With this funding announcement being pushed back, an announcement for the selected safety improvement at this intersection must also be pushed back.
A decision on a selected safety improvement is now anticipated in mid-to-late summer.
