Chip sealing project completed on Highways 12 and 55
WILLMAR, Minn. – A chip sealing project on Highway 12 and Highway 55 has been completed. The project included chip seal applications on the following road segments:
- Highway 12 from Kerkhoven to Pennock
- Highway 12 from Atwater to Litchfield
- Highway 55 from Eden Valley to Watkins
Originally expected to be completed by Aug. 30, a glass bead shortage delayed the installation of permanent striping.
Project benefits
Chip sealing prevents deterioration of the pavement surface from the effects of aging and oxidation as a result of sun, water, traffic and plowing. It also increases skid resistance. The chip sealing project cost $988,000, and the contractor was ASTECH.
