Nightly closures of I-35W near Downtown Minneapolis begin Oct. 3

Roseville, Minn. – Motorists will encounter I-35W and adjacent ramp closures near downtown Minneapolis over the next two weeks to complete deck construction, painting, guardrail and lighting installation, and to place permanent pavement markings on the 7th and 8th street bridges.

  • Beginning at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. each night, Monday, Oct. 3 and Tuesday, Oct. 4, the ramps from southbound I-35W and Washington Ave. to westbound I-94/11th Ave. will be closed to traffic. Motorists should follow the posted detour.
  • Beginning at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. each night, Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 6, southbound I-35W between Washington Ave. and I-94 will be closed to traffic. Motorists should use alternate routes.
  • At 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10 and Tuesday, Oct. 11, northbound I-35W will be reduced to one lane of traffic between I-94 and Washington Ave. Then at 11:45 p.m. through 5 a.m. each night, northbound I-35W between I-94 and Washington Ave. will be fully closed to traffic. Motorists will be detoured using Washington Ave. to northbound I-35W.
  • Beginning at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. each night, Wednesday, Oct. 12 and Thursday, Oct. 13., the ramp from northbound I-35W to Washington Ave./U of M/3rd St. will be closed to traffic. Motorists will be detoured using northbound I-35W to 4th St./University Ave.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive responsibly and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
