Motorists advised to watch for lane restrictions, ramp closures Thursday morning through Friday morning, Sept. 22 and 23 in St. Paul
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists who have driven on I-94 north of downtown St. Paul this week have probably noticed that construction is finishing up. Eastbound I-94 and westbound I-94 are now both fully open, however the eastbound lanes will be restricted one final time tomorrow evening and several ramps will also be temporarily closed throughout the day and overnight until early Friday morning.
Restriping of eastbound I-94 between I-35E and Mounds Blvd. will require single lane traffic on the eastbound interstate along with numerous ramp closures beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 22 through early Fri, Sept. 23. But once the striping is complete Friday morning, the interstate will reopen to all lanes and most ramps in this stretch of the road will permanently open.
And before restriping even begins, the ramp from westbound I-94 to northbound I-35E will open by 5 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 22.
Beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 22, the ramps from 11th St./Jackson St. and from 7th St. to eastbound I-94 will close until 10 p.m. As the two ramps reopen tomorrow night, the ramp from eastbound I-94 to southbound Hwy 52 also will reopen.
However, beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 22, eastbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane between I-35E and Mounds Blvd. and the ramps from southbound I-35E to eastbound I-94 and 6th St. to eastbound I-94 will close. All lane closures and ramp closures will be completed by 5 a.m. Fri, Sept. 23. And the ramps from northbound Hwy 52 to eastbound and westbound I-94 also will reopen.
The ramp from eastbound I-94 to Mounds Blvd. will remain closed until work on the Mounds Blvd. bridge is completed in early October.
Crews are wrapping up the second (and final year) of repairs and resurfacing on I-94 between Western Ave. and Mounds Blvd. and I-35E between I-94 and University Ave. in St. Paul. Project work also includes resurfacing ramps and frontage roads along I-94, repairing drainage and upgrading storm sewers, bridge rehabilitation work. Sidewalks and approaches also have been repaired and upgraded to meet Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards. The project will be complete by mid-October 2022.
