Culvert replacement will detour Hwy 80 traffic near Wykoff on Sept. 19-20
WYKOFF, Minn. – Highway 80 motorists south of Wykoff will be detoured Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19-20 while Minnesota Department of Transportation maintenance crews remove and replace a culvert under the state highway.
Crews will be working to keep the detour only two days, but it’s possible it could last longer depending on weather conditions and work-related complications.
The location of the culvert work is one-quarter of a mile north of the junction with Highway 16. Crews will close the road for two days. The culvert is in the northbound lane, but crews need to be in the southbound lane with equipment to complete the digging, removal, and replacement.
The detour during the work is Highway 16 east to Highway 52 north to Highway 80 west, which is just south of Fountain and will take motorists into Wykoff from the east.
Motorists may encounter lane closures or lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, equipment and other unexpected obstacles when driving near or through work zones. MnDOT advises motorists to:
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Go hands-free and minimize other distractions (e.g., don’t eat or drink while driving).
- Follow posted speed limits; the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Avoid making lane changes within work zones.
