Southbound Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue closure begins August 14
Roseville, Minn. – Beginning at 11 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin closing segments of southbound Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue between Lake Street and Highway 62 in Minneapolis. Crews will be resurfacing the pavement and doing sidewalk, accessibility, lighting, and restoration work throughout the area. Local residences and businesses will be accessible during these closures.
The closure will occur in two stages:
- Beginning at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, southbound Hiawatha Avenue from Lake Street to 46th Street will be closed to traffic through 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17.
- Beginning at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, southbound Hiawatha Avenue from 46th Street to Highway 62 will be closed through 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
Motorists will be detoured using southbound I-35W and Highway 62, and local roads along southbound Hiawatha Ave. between Lake Street and Highway 62 will be open. However, motorists should expect significant delays when crossing Hiawatha Avenue and should use alternate routes when possible.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
