No bids received for Hwy 9 improvement project in New London
WILLMAR, Minn. – MnDOT didn’t receive any bids on May 20 for the Highway 9 improvement project that was scheduled for this summer in New London. Market conditions and supply chain issues for a short turnaround time may have contributed to no bids being offered.
The project was scheduled to be completed prior to school starting; however, there would not be enough time to rebid the project this month and complete it within the desired timeframe. MnDOT is planning to relet the project this coming winter with construction in summer 2023. The additional time between letting and construction should help contractors plan for supplies and provide a better bidding climate.
Project details
Improvements along Highway 9 include sidewalk bump-outs that meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards, mid-block pedestrian crossings, dedicated left-turn lanes at the Country Stop, and the replacement of portions of the retaining wall along the Mill Pond bridge. The estimated cost of the project was $750,000.
