Hwy 15 Kimball roadwork, detour begins April 11
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Those who travel through Kimball, Stearns County, should plan for some delays as Highway 15 closes and roadwork begins Monday, April 11.
Motorists can expect these impacts through July as crews reconstruct and improve Highway 15:
- Detour, Watkins to Kimball: Highway 15 will close to through traffic between Willow Creek Road and Highway 55 in Kimball. Motorists will follow a signed detour along Highway 55 to Watkins, then Meeker County Road 17 to Highway 24, and back to Highway 15 south of Kimball. Download detour map (PDF)
- Active work zone: Access will be open and maintained to those who live, work or visit Kimball. However, expect changes, follow road signs and consider use of other accesses (alley, side street, side/back entrance). For your safety and ours, please watch for workers, equipment and stay out of closed areas.
- Spruce Avenue will remain open to cross traffic.
- Pedestrians will encounter sidewalk closures with signed detours.
Crews will reconstruct the road surface along with curbs and gutters, underground storm sewer and other utilities; extend the sidewalk south of Linden Avenue to Willow Creek Park and north of Spruce Avenue East to Highway 55; update or add sidewalk and pedestrian approaches; install a multi-use trail along Highway 15 north of Highway 55; and install overhead street lighting.
Landwehr Construction is the contractor for the $2.3 million project. When complete in July, the project will provide a smoother road surface, improve motorist and pedestrian safety and upgrade city utilities.
