Final ramp reopens at 12th Street and I-94/I-35E in St. Paul: 2021 construction is complete
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – As the first year of construction on the I-94 & I-35E project wraps up in St. Paul, the ramp from 12th Street and Wabasha Street to westbound Interstate 94 and southbound Interstate 35E near the Capitol reopened around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2021. It was the first ramp to close on Wednesday, July 21st at the start of this year’s construction and is the final ramp to reopen. There will be no additional closures or work this year. Next year’s construction activity will focus on repairs and resurfacing on I-94 between Marion St. and I-35E from spring through mid-summer 2022 and then work will shift to I-94 between I-35E Mounds Blvd. from mid-summer through the fall of 2022. Additional repairs and resurfacing also will be done next spring and early summer on I-35E between I-94 and University Ave.
This two-year project will repair and resurface I-94 between Western Ave. and Mounds Blvd. and I-35E between I-94 and University Ave. in St. Paul. Project work will also include resurfacing ramps and frontage roads along I-94, repairing drainage and upgrading storm sewers, bridge rehabilitation work as well as repairing sidewalks and upgrading pedestrian sidewalks and approaches to Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards. The project is anticipated to be complete in fall 2022.
