Sherburne County improves access, safety at two intersections along Hwy 169 south of Zimmerman

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Sherburne County will reconstruct two Reduced Conflict Intersections (RCIs), also known as J-turns or R-cuts, on Highway 169 at County Road 19 and County Road 25, south of Zimmerman beginning Monday, July 12.

In RCIs, drivers always make a right turn followed by a U-turn. This reduces potential conflict points and improves safety. These intersections decrease fatalities and injuries caused by broadside crashes on four-lane divided highways.

There will be traffic impacts on Highway 169 with periodic lane or shoulder closures. Motorists can expect changes when navigating through the work zone. Here’s what to expect at each RCI work zone:

  • Hwy 169 and Sherburne County Road 19/245th Avenue NW. Access will periodically close to/from Hwy 169 at County Road 19. Motorists to follow detour along County Road 4, 237th Avenue NW and County Road 74.
  • Hwy 169 and Sherburne County Road 25/243rd Avenue NW. Access will periodically close to/from Hwy 169 at County Road 25. Motorists to follow detour along County Road 4 and County Road 45.

When complete in late September, the project will improve motorist safety and access on Highway 169. To learn more about the benefits of RCIs in Minnesota, visit mndot.gov/roadwork/rci.
