Highway 12 closes May 24 for road construction
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Starting Monday, May 24, Highway 12 will close between Ortonville and Highway 59 for construction. Thru-traffic will be detoured to Highway 75, Highway 7 and Highway 59.
The project includes nearly 26 miles of resurfacing and shoulder widening, as well as snow trap improvements and replacement of several box culverts. The work will take place between Highway 75 in Ortonville and Highway 59.
During construction, access to driveways along the work zone will be maintained. The work will be done in stages, starting on the east end of the project near Highway 59. Local traffic should watch for daily lane closures, heavy equipment and traffic control devices, which may change daily depending on where crews are working. The roadway may be impassable during box culvert replacements. Thru-traffic must use the detour route.
Central Specialties, Inc., based out of Alexandria, was awarded the project with a bid of $21.8 million. For more information about the project and to sign up for email updates, visit the project website: mndot.gov/d4/projects/hwy12.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
