Fourth and final weekend closure planned this weekend on eastbound I-94/I-694 in Brooklyn Center
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Northwest Twin Cities Metro area motorists will find eastbound I-94/I-694 closed and detoured this weekend for the fourth and final weekend of pavement resurfacing on the two interstates that share a common route through Brooklyn Center.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, May 7, the eastbound lanes of the interstate will close from Brooklyn Boulevard to Highway 252. At the same time, the ramp from northbound Highway 100 to eastbound I-694 also will close along with the ramps from County Road 81 and Boone Avenue to eastbound I-94.
The ramp from Shingle Creek Parkway to eastbound I-94 and northbound Highway 252 will remain open. The two roadways share a common ramp.
During the weekend closure, motorists will need to follow the signed detour on southbound Hwy 169, eastbound I-394 and northbound I-94 to avoid the closure.
The eastbound interstate is expected to reopen around 5 a.m. Monday, May 3.
Once pavement resurfacing is complete, construction crews will install guardrail, restripe the roadway and make some minor grading changes along the ditches.
Repairs and resurfacing on Interstate 94/694 between Brooklyn Boulevard and Dupont Avenue began Monday, April 12, in Brooklyn Center. The project also includes drainage improvements, signal system work and upgrading pedestrian/bicycle crossings throughout the corridor to meet Americans with Disabilities Act Standards. Those improvements include traffic signals, ramp and sidewalk updates.
Weather permitting, all work will be completed by early June.
