Highway 61 construction in Wyoming and Forest Lake begins May 6
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Those who travel on Highway 61 in Wyoming and Forest Lake will encounter off-peak daytime lane closures and possible delays as a road improvement project gets underway Thursday, May 6. Construction will include pavement and drainage work, the addition of right turn lanes in specific locations, plus safety and pedestrian improvements.
After the morning rush hour, Thursday, May 6, both directions of Highway 61 between Interstate 35 and Highway 8 will have periodic lane closures as crews remove and replace existing pavement markings to prepare for construction staging. This preparatory work is expected to be complete by the end of the week, Friday, May 7.
Then, beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, May 10, crews will begin resurfacing the road. Most of the work will be done under traffic. Crews may be using flaggers periodically as they work on sections of the highway. Motorists are urged to slow down and pay attention in and near the work zone.
In early July, motorists can expect a month-long closure of Highway 61 between Highway 8 in Wyoming and I-35 in Forest Lake. Local access on Highway 61 will be maintained for residents and businesses in the project area. However, through traffic on Highway 61 will be detoured to I-35.
Some sidewalks will close as crews remove and replace old sidewalks in specific areas. There will also be bicycle and pedestrian impacts to the Sunrise Prairie Trail.
Once construction is complete motorists and pedestrians will have a smoother, safer highway with improved sidewalks and drainage. Weather permitting, work should be complete by late summer 2021.
