Lane shift and ramp closures begin June 16 on I-494 in Inver Grove Heights and South St. Paul
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists traveling eastbound Interstate 494 between 7th Avenue and Highway 61 in South St. Paul should plan for major delays as eastbound I-494 is reduced to a single lane and ramps close beginning Sunday, June 16.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 16 eastbound I-494 will be a single lane between 7th Avenue and Highway 61 as crews begin placing barrier for a traffic switch to complete the I-494 bridge work over Concord Street. Once crews complete their traffic switch by 5 a.m. Monday, June 17, eastbound I-494 will be reduced to two lanes between 7th Avenue and Highway 61 until early-August.
In addition, the Concord loop ramp to eastbound I-494 will also be closed and detoured beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 16 through early-August. Motorists should follow the signed detours to Hardman Avenue to eastbound I-494 during the closures.
Motorists should expect delays on adjacent routes due to the lane and ramp closures on eastbound I-494. Please plan ahead and know your route.
These traffic shifts and ramp closures are part of a larger project on I-494 where crews will widen, resurface and replace bridge joints on the Concord St/Highway 156 bridge, construct auxiliary lanes on westbound I-494 between Hardman Ave. to west of 5th Ave., improve drainage and construct noise walls.
