I-35W weekend closure in Minneapolis scheduled Nov. 16-19
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Interstate 35W will close in both directions between Interstate 94 and Highway 62 in Minneapolis, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 to complete underground utility work across I-35W.
Crews will begin closing the on and off ramps for I-35W about one hour before closing the interstate. Southbound I-35W will be open to traffic south of Diamond Lake Road. Motorists will be detoured around the closure using Interstate 394, Highway 100 and Hwy 62. I-35W will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19.
This will be the final full weekend closure for the 35W@94 project this year. Construction work throughout the 35W@94 project area will continue through the winter.
These closures are part of the larger four-year 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown reconstruction project on I-35W between 43rd Street and downtown Minneapolis. The work includes reconstructing pavement, bridges and ramps on I-35W, adding new access ramps to the Lake Street Business District, building a new transit station on the interstate and constructing new MnPASS lanes. Once complete, motorists and residents will have better accessibility, safety and mobility in the area. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2021.
