I-35W lane closures scheduled near Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis begin Oct. 10

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 10, motorists will encounter periodic, off-peak lane closures on northbound and southbound I-35W in the Franklin Avenue area and on the access roads in and out of downtown Minneapolis through mid-October.

There will be a lane closure on the access road out of downtown Minneapolis, from S. 12th Street/4th Avenue S to southbound I-35W, between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. There will be lane closures on both southbound and northbound I-35W around Franklin Avenue and on the access road from northbound I-35W to 5th Avenue S/E. Grant Street into downtown Minneapolis between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The lane closures are necessary as crews work on the bridge foundations during daytime hours to limit nighttime noise and vibration disruptions.

These closures are part of the larger four-year 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown reconstruction project on I-35W between 43rd Street and downtown Minneapolis. The work includes reconstructing pavement, bridges and ramps on I-35W, adding new access ramps to the Lake Street Business District and building a new transit station on the interstate. Once complete, motorists and residents will have better accessibility, safety and mobility in the area.  Work is expected to be completed in fall 2021.
