Update: Portland Avenue bridge closure rescheduled for Oct. 4
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The closure of the Portland Avenue bridge spanning Interstate 94 in Minneapolis has been rescheduled for 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The closure, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, is necessary as crews work on the piers below the bridge deck.
The bridge will remain open to pedestrians, bicyclists, ambulances and police. Motorists should follow the posted detour using 14th Street to Chicago Avenue to Franklin Avenue.
The Portland Avenue bridge is expected to reopen in late-November, weather permitting.
This closure is part of the larger four-year 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown reconstruction project on I-35W between 43rd Street and downtown Minneapolis. The work includes reconstructing pavement, bridges and ramps on I-35W, adding new access ramps to the Lake Street Business District and building a new transit station on the interstate. Once complete, motorists and residents will have better accessibility, safety and mobility in the area. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2021.
