2 overnight closures planned on I-35W in Bloomington for bridge work

ROSEVILLE, Minn. Motorists will see a section on Interstate 35W close this week while crews set concrete beams for the new 86th Street Bridge in Bloomington.
I-35W south will close at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 to 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept 28 from I-494 to 90th Street.

The detour is Highway 62 or I-494 east to Highway 77 south to I-35E to I-35

All lanes of I-35W north will close from 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 to 5 a.m. Friday Sept. 29 from Highway 13 to I-494.

The detour is I-35E or Highway 13 to Highway 77 to I-494 west to I-35W.

The work is weather permitting.

The work is part of the 86th Street bridge replacement in Bloomington that started in late June. Crews are replacing the bridge after oversized vehicles struck and damaged it. The bridge has been closed since April.

The 82nd Street bridge was also damaged in April and has been reduced to one lane in each direction. Crews will also install a new beam on the 82nd Street bridge while the freeway is closed overnight Wednesday.

The new 86th Street Bridge will have a vertical clearance that is two feet higher than the original bridge, which was built in 1957. The $3.2 million project is scheduled to open by the end of October.
