Overnight closures planned for Lowry Hill Tunnel on I-94 West next week

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will see overnight closures at the Lowry Hill Tunnel on westbound Interstate 94 in Minneapolis next week.

The tunnel will close daily, weather permitting, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26; Wednesday, Sept. 27; Thursday, Sept. 28; Friday, Sept. 29; Sunday Oct. 1.

Crews will not work Saturday, Sept. 30 and the tunnel will remain open to traffic during overnight hours.

The detour is the prohibited vehicle route that takes motorists off I-94 west at the Hennepin/Lyndale exit.

The eastbound tunnel will remain open.

Crews will work on installing curb, permanent striping, lighting and final work inside the tunnel on I-94 west while the tunnel is closed.

The work is part of the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center project that started March 20. The $46 million project included resurfacing nine miles of freeway, fixing 50 bridges, ramp repairs and repairs to the Lowry Hill and Portland Avenue tunnels. Much of the work is complete. Crews will continue making improvements on I-94 through October and will return in spring of 2018 for some ramp and bridge work. The project is expected to be complete by July of 2018.
