Signing, guardrail replacement and lighting installation begins next week on Hwy 51/Snelling Avenue

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – A two-month project to replace overhead signing, lighting and guardrail and install median barrier along Highway 51/Snelling Avenue begins Monday, June 12 between Highway 36 in Roseville and Interstate 694 in Arden Hills. During the work, motorists will encounter daytime non-rush hour lane closures and some nighttime work.

MnDOT, along with Iowa State University, also will use the project to research ways to improve sign and lighting installation. Study results will be used to improve specifications for the amount of torque or force needed to tighten nuts to prevent them from loosening. MnDOT will share study results with national transportation organizations. The department regularly inspects overhead lighting and sign structures to ensure that bolts and nuts remain secure.

Weather permitting, work will be completed by the end of July.
