Highway 23 New London Safety Assessment final report complete
WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation and its partners, the City of New London, Kandiyohi County and New London Township are pleased to release the Highway 23 New London Safety Assessment final report.
SRF, Inc. was contracted in 2017 to conduct the safety assessment. The purpose was to evaluate the current and future performance of Highway 23 corridor now and into the future, evaluate existing conditions, facilitate a discussion between local partners, stakeholders and the public, provide a list of opportunities and recommendations and establish priorities to improve the safety of Highway 23.
The safety assessment consisted of three phases:
- Purpose and need identification
- Develop and evaluate alternatives
Ongoing engagement with the public was a large part of all three phases of the safety assessment. From March 2017 through November of 2017 the following public engagement opportunities were conducted:
- On-line mapping tool
- Two (2) open houses
- One pop-up event (Glacial Ridge Winery)
- One focus group (freight)
- Three (3) targeted meetings (NL-S school district & local businesses)
