Stage two detour for Hwy 7 project starts July 5

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Highway 7 project started Monday, June 12 with a detour of Highway 7 east of the US 71/Highway 7 intersection near Blomkest to the intersection of Highway 7 and Kandiyohi County Road 5.  The project includes the resurfacing of Highway 7 from the intersection of US 71/Highway 7 to Clara City (16.4 miles).

Starting Wednesday, July 5, the detour will be extended on Highway 7 to Clara City.

The detour on Highway 7 east of the US 71/Highway 7 intersection was planned to be removed July 5, but will need to remain in place until July 17.  The project is about one week behind due to recent wet weather.  The contractor on the project, Duininck Inc. will be working Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1 to make up time that has been lost due to the rain. Maps of both detours are below.

Construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Highway 7 and US 71 also started on June 12.  This project is being constructed under traffic.  US 71 is open to traffic.

Duininck Inc. is the contractor on the project.  The total project cost is $6.5 million and includes both the Highway 7 project and roundabout project.  For more information on the project visit www.mndot.gov/d8/projects/hwy7hwy71roundabout/index.html and www.mndot.gov/d8/projects/hwy7/index.html.

MnDOT asks motorists to slow down and pay attention while driving through work zones.  Motorists who speed through a work zone or who disobey work zone flaggers face a $300 fine.
