Construction begins on Highway 60 access change for 510th Ave. near Bingham Lake

Truckers to access POET from the south

MANKATO, Minn. – The permanent closure of 510th Avenue to Highway 60 near Bingham Lake will take place as soon as Tuesday afternoon October 9 (weather permitting), as crews build a new connection road from 510th Avenue to Cottonwood County Road 2 (2nd Avenue in Bingham Lake).  This is part of the Highway 60 Windom to Mountain Lake four-lane expansion project.

Access to POET Biorefining will remain open to the south as usual. Highway 60 traffic remains in a one lane each direction until completion.

When the new paved connection is complete, Highway 60 motorists will be able to access 510th Avenue (and POET) from the County Road 2 intersection with Highway 60.

Other Highway 60 remaining work includes culverts, resurfacing, signing and striping.  Early December is the projected completion date.

This eight-mile construction project is the final in a recent series of Highway 60 four-lane expansion projects.

Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye was awarded the project with a bid of $19,700,000.
