Plans to modify Hwy 22 detour week of July 10
Progress allows for opening Hwy 22/County Road 10 intersection

MANKATO, Minn. – Despite the rain, enough progress has been made on the construction project on Highway 22 from Mapleton to north of Beauford to re-open the highway between Blue Earth County Road 10 and the north end of Beauford as early as July 10. MnDOT worked with the contractor to complete this segment early to simplify access to local businesses.

Weather permitting, Monday, July 10 the detour will change to include County Road 10, Highway 83 and Highway 30 (map attached).  Prior to this alteration, the detour extended north on Highway 83 to Blue Earth County Road 90.  The intersection of Highway 22 and County Road 10 will have similar traffic control as is currently on County Road 90 – a three way stop with no stop for southbound Highway 22.

Highway 22 from Mapleton to Beauford is being reconstructed and a new bridge over the Cobb River in Beauford is under construction. Rains have slowed progress by one to two weeks, but in addition to the County Road 10 intersection, about 2.5 miles of the roadway between the towns has been graded and the second pier of the new bridge is in with beams scheduled for placement soon.  Highway 22 is still expected to re-open in the fall.
In 2018 Highway 22 will be reconstructed from north of Beauford to Blue Earth County Road 15 with a detour to Blue Earth County Road 10 and Highway 83.
Other Highway 22 improvements from Mapleton to Mankato will be as follows:

  • 2018 – Construct roundabout at Highway 22 and Blue Earth County Road 90 and resurface from CR 15 to CR 90.  (Same detour as 2018 Highway 22 reconstruction)
  • 2019 – Replace trees removed in 2017 and 2018 with landscaping (to be determined) to beautify Victory Drive and honor Veterans
