I-90 Sherburn to Fairmont construction begins April 24
MANKATO, Minn. — Motorists are advised that Interstate 90 from Sherburn to Fairmont will be under construction beginning Monday, April 24.
I-90 traffic will be managed with two-way traffic on the eastbound lanes and reduced speeds. Westbound ramps at Highway 15 in Fairmont will be closed until early June. Westbound traffic will be detoured to Martin County roads 39 and 53.
While I-90 traffic will be maintained with two lanes of two-way traffic, ramps at interchanges impacted at varying times during the May to August construction include Highway 263, Martin County Road 39 and Highway 15. More information on this project (including a construction staging map) and other I-90 projects in southwestern Minnesota can be found at www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/I90preserve.
The project includes resurfacing the westbound lanes between Sherburn and Fairmont and the eastbound lanes for about a mile west of Fairmont. Four bridges will be repaired and lighting replaced. Ulland Brothers, Inc. of Albert Lea have been awarded the project with a bid of $7,392,429.
The Highway 15 project in Fairmont has now received funding and is scheduled to be bid to a contractor on April 28. After a four to six week review process, a contract can be awarded. The construction on Highway 15 will not start before July to allow completion of the I-90 bridge work over Highway 15. The I-90 ramps at Highway 15 are planned to be back open before the Highway 15 project begins. There is a possibility the Highway 15 work could be delayed until 2018 due to the timelines needed for the fabrication of specialty materials.
