Summary of work

In 2020, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be constructing a safety project at the Highway 61 and Sugar Loaf View intersection in Winona. As part of this project, MnDOT, in partnership with the city of Winona, will be modifying the access to reduce crashes at the intersection.

Traffic impacts

  • During construction, Highway 61 traffic will be reduced to single lane traffic while the side road approaches and median work is completed. Eventually, traffic will not be able to cross all four lanes from the side road.
  • There will be short-term closures of the side road approach roadways during construction; however, access will be provided at all times to businesses and properties in the area.
