I-90 lane closures planned near Dresbach as bridge cleaning work begins May 11
DRESBACH, Minn. – Interstate 90 motorists will encounter Minnesota Department of Transportation crews as they clean and inspect bridges beginning May 11.
MnDOT bridge crews will be performing spring maintenance flushing on the I-90 bridges in the Dresbach- La Crescent corridor. The bridges lead to and from the I-90 Mississippi River crossing. Crews will be alternating lanes as they work on each of the bridges. Bridges will be reduced to one lane while crews perform the flushing operations.
Motorists will see workers on the bridges from 7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday or until flushing is completed. Work schedules may be affected by weather.
MnDOT road work has been identified as a critical service in Gov. Tim Walz’s Stay at Home executive order. Following guidance from state and federal health officials, and to prevent further spread of COVID-19, crews will maintain social distancing practices while working.
The work is an annual effort to ensure that bridges are cleaned from the winter months and to identify any small maintenance issues to ensure the long life of the structures.
During the process, MnDOT crews use fresh water in high pressure pumps to spray down the gutter lines and joints, while also doing a visual inspection of each bridge, looking for damage and corrosion that might have occurred from traffic and the elements during the winter months. The sand and other material that accumulated during winter is swept up prior to the rinsing.
