Hwy 16 detour ends, paving and other work continues
GRAND MEADOW, Minn. – A Hwy 16 detour between Hwy 63 and Interstate 90 ended Friday, Sept. 6, but motorists should continue to be alert for work crews paving, installing guardrail, striping and doing rumble strip work along this corridor from Spring Valley through Grand Meadow to Dexter, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Crews wrapped up culvert replacement work west of Hwy 63 on Hwy 16. Remaining work on the project is expected to end by early October.
Rochester Sand and Gravel is the prime contractor repaving approximately 15 miles of Hwy 16 from Spring Valley to Grand Meadow to Dexter. The work also included significant culvert replacement along the corridor. Overall, the cost is $7.5 million.
During the paving work motorists will encounter single-lane traffic with flaggers and brief closures of intersections during the paving operation. Short traffic delays are likely.
