Dangerous temperatures, partially covered highways in southeast Minnesota

ROCHESTER, Minn. (5:30 a.m.) – Minnesota Department of Transportation snowplows in the 11-county southeast Minnesota district resumed plowing earlier on Wednesday morning. Road conditions with blowing snow and dangerously low temperatures remain.

MnDOT in southeast Minnesota had brought its plows in for approximately five hours overnight to ensure that they continue operating effectively in the severe weather. Some snowplows in the district were experiencing mechanical problems in the extreme cold temperatures.

At this hour, highways in southeast Minnesota on MnDOT’s road conditions map 511mn.org are marked as partially covered with snow. Consult the map for updated road conditions and views from traffic cameras and snowplow cameras.

Severe cold temperatures and strong winds swept into the region Tuesday. MnDOT plows had been on the roads in southeast Minnesota since Sunday afternoon. The severe cold has hampered the operation of some snowplows, but plows continue working Wednesday morning.
