Hwy 63 concrete paving, detour between Rochester, Zumbro Falls begins May 7

ZUMBRO FALLS, Minn. – Highway 63 south of Zumbro Falls to the north Rochester roundabout will be detoured beginning May 7 as work begins for concrete paving on the 13 miles of state highway, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

A public open house is scheduled for the project on May 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m in Zumbro Falls City Hall to learn more about the project, its timelines and detour.

Construction by Croell, Inc., of New Hampton, Iowa, is scheduled to begin on May 7. Highway 63 just north of the 75th Street roundabout to the south end of the Highway 63 bridge over the Zumbro River in Zumbro Falls will close to through traffic on that date. Local traffic will remain open for residents and businesses along the highway to access their property.

The detour route for northbound Highway 63 is Highway 52 north to Highway 60 east to Zumbro Falls. Southbound traffic follows the route in reverse.

During the $6.9 million project, Croell will remove a portion of the existing blacktop and pave over it with concrete. It will also replace a number of pipes and culverts that cross the road and install guardrail. The project is expected to be completed in mid-August. The project should improve the ride of the road and safety.

Motorists interested the project can go to the MnDOT project website for information and sign up for email updates at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/hwy63-resurfacing/.

MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
