Hwy 42 roundabout construction begins May 7, highway detoured near Eyota
EYOTA, Minn. – Highway 42 north of Eyota will be detoured beginning May 7 as crews build a new roundabout at Olmsted County Road 9, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
County Road 9 will also be closed and detoured during the construction, which is expected to end mid-July.
The detour for northbound Highway 42 is Highway 14 east to Olmsted County Road 10 north to Olmsted County Road 2 west. The southbound detour is the reverse. Motorists who normally use Olmsted County Road 9 can use Highway 14 as the detour.
Chippewa Concrete Services, Inc. of Chippewa Falls, Wis., is the prime contractor on the $1.8 million project. The project, which is a joint effort between MnDOT and Olmsted County, should improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection.
Motorists interested the project can go to the MnDOT project website for information and sign up for email updates at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/hwy42-roundabout/.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
