Temporary overnight traffic stoppages on I-90 Austin planned Aug. 16-17
AUSTIN, Minn. – Motorists on Interstate 90 in Austin should plan for brief traffic stoppages overnight on Aug. 16 and 17 as crews place new bridge beams at 11th Drive Northeast (Exit 179), according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Bridge beam placement will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. both nights. Minnesota State Troopers will stop I-90 traffic in both directions for approximately 15 minutes each time a beam is set. Once the beam is placed and equipment has moved off the roadway, troopers will restart traffic until the next beam is ready.
Currently motorists are restricted to single-lane traffic in each direction on I-90 at Austin near exit 179.
The new bridge will be widened to accommodate two 12-foot lanes, two 8-foot shoulders and a 10-foot sidewalk. The existing roadway alignment will remain the same. Work on the project includes grading, paving, bridge replacement and shared use trail and drainage improvements. Work began May 15 on the project and should be complete by Oct. 2. Lunda Construction is the prime contractor for the $2.97 million project.
