Hwy 52 lane closures begin April 10 for Zumbrota Hwy 58 bridge project
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 52 will encounter lane closures beginning Monday as work to replace the Highway 58 bridge in Zumbrota begins, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists will be restricted to single-lane traffic in the right lane in each direction on Highway 52 at Zumbrota. The work marks the start of the replacement of the Highway 58 bridge over Highway 52. The project will also improve connections for pedestrians and bicyclists across the bridge, traffic flow off of Hwy 52 and the length of the uphill acceleration lane onto southbound Highway 52.
On April 15 and 16, weather permitting, workers will temporarily close Highway 58 near the Highway 52 interchange to install a sanitary sewer connection. Highway 52 motorists seeking to use Highway 58 will need to detour at the Highway 60 west exit and follow Jefferson Road to connect to Highway 58. MOtoNorthbound motorists seeking to access the west side of the Highway 58 interchange will be able to exit Highway 52 and cross the bridge to the west side. The closure will only be for two days.
Additional ramp closures and detours are planned during the project and MnDOT will announce the closures and the detours in advance of the construction work. The new bridge is expected to be opened to traffic in the fall.
Hoffman Construction Company of Black River Falls, Wis., is the prime contractor for the $5.6 million project.
