MnDOT hosts open house to discuss two upcoming projects in Pope County
DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—The Minnesota Department of Transportation will host a public open house to discuss two upcoming projects in Pope County: the 2019 resurfacing project on Highway 28/29 between Starbuck and Glenwood, and the 2021 Highway 29 Overpass at the junction of Highway 29 and Highway 55.
The open house will be held in the media center at Minnewaska Area High School on Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. There will not be a formal presentation. The project teams will be available to answer questions and review plans.
The Highway 28/29 resurfacing project is scheduled to begin May 13 and last through early July, weather permitting. During construction, traffic will be detoured to Highway 29 south of Starbuck, Pope County Road 18 and Highway 104.
MnDOT will also share information and gather feedback on the preliminary design for the Highway 29 Overpass, which is currently scheduled for the 2021 construction season. All comments and feedback received at the open house will be used to inform decisions on the project’s design.
The overpass would eliminate an “at grade” crossing with the Canadian Pacific railway system and improve safety and congestion issues at the intersection of Hwy 29 and Hwy 55 by moving the junction south to 160th Street and giving the intersection a new roundabout approach.
