Highway 106 near New York Mills and Deer Creek open to traffic

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—Highway 106 near New York Mills and Deer Creek has been reopened to traffic. The roadway had been closed since July while crews began a 7-mile construction project.

Although the detour has been removed, intermittent lane and shoulder closures, as well as mobile operations are expected to continue for the next two weeks. Crews will be completing final striping, pavement markings and turf work.

Upon completion of the project, motorists will encounter a smoother road surface, wider shoulders and a new turn lane at County Road 52 for both northbound and southbound traffic. Replacement of sidewalks and corner pedestrian ramps in Deer Creek will help improve pedestrian accessibility.

Visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/hwy106/ for more information.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) urges motorists to always drive with caution, and reminds them to slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
